A time of incredible opportunities and new beginnings is upon us. A new time to renew ourselves as the dual beings we are (with our part of light and our part of darkness) and give way to the new, granted by nature itself. Of course we are talking about the autumnal equinox, to happen next September 23rd.
An equinox is special because it gives us the gift of perfect balance. In nature, during an equinox day and night have exactly the same duration. Hence its name, derived from the Latin "aequinoctium" whose literal meaning is "equal night".
This day of perfect balance heralds the arrival of autumn, a time of preparation for a new cycle of beginnings and births (represented by the spring-summer season). Nature itself announces the arrival of this season; the leaves of the trees fall and the birds migrate. It is a time of visible changes, no doubt, but it is also a time of spiritual, internal, divine changes.
It is only during the equinox that the duality of the universe is canceled, being one and reaching a total balance, night and day, sun and moon, male and female. A perfect balance is reached, but also a perfect union in all creation. From physical to divine concepts.
How can we prepare for the autumnal equinox? Being the introduction to a new season, the first thing is to be thankful for all that we have experienced. The hard lessons and the sweet victories. But it is also to accept that it is all behind us and that it is in our hands to let go of the old to welcome all those experiences and learnings that come in this new cycle. For that is precisely what this equinox is; the door to new beginnings that requires us to prepare ourselves with open arms and an open mind for what is to come.
Another way to prepare ourselves is to become aware of the meaning of this union we mentioned before, this loss of duality to become part of one absolute. We must be convinced that this perfect and divine balance also lies latent in all of us. It is time to reconcile our light with our darkness. Both energies, although opposites, are complementary. And by accepting that both are part of all of us we will take on a higher consciousness. It is our responsibility to accept that we may be able to achieve this balance and thus remain part of the divine and supreme whole.
Simple actions such as meditation and the preparation of our spaces to receive this new cycle are also significant and give value to the reception of the equinox. But it is important to understand that this is only a new beginning, that our task of learning and positive experimentation will continue and must become a permanent part of us. Only in this way will we reach the divinity to which we are destined.
